Every artist or cultural worker can join the 1001 Fires action on July 25, 2020 by presenting fragment(s) of the work they have created during the pandemic and sharing these with us via social media. The hashtag we are unifying under is #1001Fires and you can find and link in with us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
We recognise that the pandemic has impacted arts and cultural workers in various ways, with some unable to make work. If this is the case, then we ask that you share your story with us on the day via our social media channels. We want to hear your voice.
What is a fire?
- A fire is a metaphor for the work of arts and cultural workers and our support and solidarity with and to one another. A fire is you, and me. It is us arts and cultural workers together giving fuel to one another so we can burn brighter and share the warmth with one another.
- A fire is our work. It is not limited to any arts or cultural discipline, – it is inclusive of all arts and culture. It can be a performance, a song, an installation, pottery, a painting, a poem, a technical/scenographical creation, a dance, or whatever you see fit.
- A fire can be presented in any language and in whatever way you would like. Our only request is that what is presented does not actively discriminate or cause harm to any person/group of people or animals and respects their human and animal rights.
On the 25 of July, we ask that you share your spark, your flame, your fire.
How to share your fire?
- On 25 July, 2020, share your fire on one or all of the 1001 Fires social media platforms, like Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. If the location where you are does not allow you access to these sites please let us know by emailing mail@1001fires.org and we will endeavor to include a platform that you can access from your location.
- Leading up to 25 July, we will regularly post fires online, so if you have something to share already, please share on our social media or email it to us at mail@1001fires.org
What next?
This action on 25 July will kick-start a larger mapping project, resulting in a long-term network of artists and cultural workers from diverse creative backgrounds. This grassroots network will enable artists and cultural workers to share ideas, practice, and training; to connect and to support one another in the making, building and presenting of their work. It will also allow for dialogue and collaboration, geared towards a shift within the structures that shape our praxis as artists and as human beings.
If you are interested in being a part of this grassroots network, please email us on mail@1001fires.org
